Dream the Impossible - by Nishan Wimalachandra
Below are some innocent and sweet statements of little children
Arnold : I want to be an actor
Madonna : I want to be a Singer
Martin Luther King : Well I like to be Important, to bring all of us out of bondage and slavery
Nishan : I want to be a Philosopher (I never knew what it means)
Thomas Alva Edison : I want to make permanent lights instead of candles
George W Bush : I want to be like my daddy.
(Mother) Theresa : I want to help people those who are in need.
These are few expectations of innocent little children who wanted to be somebody in their life, but how many of them really became what they really wanted to be? Most of the above assumptions I have taken into account denote that somewhere down the line someone wanted to be somebody. One wanted to be popular, another to be different while another didn’t know what they want to be, because all their life they asked others what they liked them to be. Most of us had a Dream when we were small, because we were small enough to understand that it is possible to do. We did not care whether what it would cost us to be what we wanted to be; we just wanted to be someone. Through all the ages there were children who had a Dream, they had something special that others thought it’s ridiculous. People hated them just because they had a Dream, just because they wanted to be someone.
People would have thought them to be insane and abnormal. The little kid Martin Luther would have been thinking about getting rid of the slavery & ill-treatments of white men, and there could have been other kids of his age who have said this is life, we have to live with it. But did it stop there? Most of the Dreamers were killed and burned and stoned to death and scorned and ridiculed. But did it stop there? No, there was another child who wanted to have candles, which will burn for a long time. When he was grown up he pursued his Dream to do so, there would have been other people who would have told him “ Hay Thomas, what the hell are you doing?” “ You know that it won’t work” “ Tho…….mas I told you that this is just wasting your time, Go to bed” But did it stop there? No. But most of us do stop there. You would have been someone who did stop there long ago, when things became awry.
If so you better start Dreaming and start having a Vision again. Because when you become old you will have to regret what you should have done, and then you’ll think “ Well, I could have become a Doctor, but now my get up and go has got up and gone, its too late.” No its still not late enough……..Grandpa you can walk fast as me says your grandchildren who have Dreams to be somebody. There are people who are doing many good things when they are old. Jimmy Carter is fighting a good fight of faith to bring Peace, and there are lots of people like that. After sometime when a newspaper reporter asked Thomas Alfa Edison “ Sir, didn’t you get discouraged when you produced so many bulbs about 900 odd which were unsuccessful?” But Thomas replied, No I was encouraged every time when it was a failure, because I knew that if this way doesn’t work, there should be another way so I kept on trying, I kept on pursuing my Dream to light the world.. Yes his tremendous Dream to do something new made us so much addicted to the lights, which we have today. Probably the people who said that it is not going to work would have withered and died in darkness, when Thomas was going beyond the light.
He was a Dreamer who wanted to do something different in some other way. Where there is no Vision people perish. In other words when there is no Dream, people lose hope and faith and just continue life as lifeless beings. Dreamers give life, where the people who scorn them give birth to death. We all know that conception without perception is blind, and perception without conception is empty. And in order to accomplish something we should be willing to do whatever it takes it to accomplish it. Dreamers always think what they can start new, while the dream killers are concerned with what they can stop. Dreamers encourage the other Dreamers, while Dream killers discourage themselves as well. Dream killers are pre-occupied with killing a dream, while Dreamers are always pre-occupied with the Dream. Finally, Dreamers make things happen, While Dream killers wonder what’s happening.
Are you a Dreamer,
You better be one ! Dream your Dream, It Shall Come to Pass. But never mistake a clear view for short distance.
